The Town of Frisco has half a dozen companies who want to come to town.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding a certain 9.4 acres in Frisco. The land sits close to the highway, adjacent to some wetlands, and behind a major (for Summit County) shopping center. It's one of the only parcels owned by the Town that has yet to be developed.

The Town needs the sales tax revenue that a retail center could generate on this land. But, many citizens want to see anything BUT retail. Nevertheless, the Town voted not too long ago to solicit proposals from developers for the property. And got a very interesting mix. Home Depot wants to call Frisco home, as does Lowe's. Alberta Partners tried last year to get approval to develope with a few small "anchors" like Office Depot, Cost Plus and Petsmart, but didn't meet approval of the citizens. It's back, most likely with a similar proposal. Two other applicants are considered not really in the running.

In the meantime, citizens have apparently gotten enough signatures to put the future of this parcel up to a general vote in November. And the Town plans to put the finalists up, as well. It should be an interesting election.
