The decision to approve the highest lift in North America has been withdrawn

On January 21st, I reported here that the Summit Lift at Peak 8 in Breckenridge, was given preliminary approval by the Dillon Ranger District. However, District Ranger Rick Newton has supervisors (don't we all?) - and they have very different views from his.

So, they have withdrawn his approval for further study. The plans for the lift, according to reporter Kim Marquis of the Summit Daily, are left "hanging in the breeze like a stalled chairlift". (I like that Kim. She's got a good way with words.)

So, it's back to the drawing boards. Vail Resorts cannot move forward until a final (favorable) decision is reached, and the Imperial Bowl will remain the domain of the few brave hikers with the tenacity to get there. But then, that's government.
