Summit County is full of citizens that care for their environment. Real estate brokers are also going green by educating themselves on energy and environmental issues.

Like many Colorado mountain communities, Summit County residents tend to be an environmentally aware group.  Summit Recycling Project in partnership with the county government built a state of the art Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) that meets the highest possible standard for green building and energy efficiency.  Likewise, a locally owned hardware store is held out as an example in green building and renewable energy systems.  But non-profits, retail businesses and the public sector aren’t the only ones waving the pro-environment flag.  Real Estate brokers are going green, too.  Jane Byrant Quinn authored an article in the December 4, 2006 issue of Newsweek on this subject.  The full article is available <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15894453/site/newsweek/" target="_blank">here</a>, <a href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15894453/site/newsweek/">but</a> in this article Quinn talks about the relatively new designation of EcoBroker.  There are approximately 250 brokers and agents who have received this qualification in 38 states and parts of Canada, with nearly 500 more working towards this goal.  For more on the EcoBroker program,  please click <a href="http://ecobroker.com/" target="_blank">here</a> .
