The new signs make it clear

Had to reprint the following from my friend and legislator, Gary Lindstrom. We have installed new signs at the highway entrances to our beautiful eden in the mountains. They welcome visitors to . . . well, read on.

"I saw the article in the paper about the new welcome signs and I really support the change. Ever since the signs first went up they have been the laughing stock of the state and the county. There was always support to remove them from everyone except the Chamber. Even Joe Sands and Marsha Osborn hated them. One question. Why does it have to say "<state w:st="on" /><state /><place /><state w:st="on" />Colorado</place /></state /></state />" and "<country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" /><country-region /><place /><country-region w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />USA</place /></country-region /></place /></country-region />?" Do you wonder if people will know where they are? What state they are in? What country they are in? There are three Summit Counties. <placename w:st="on" /><place /><placename /><placename w:st="on" />Summit</placename /></placename /> <placetype w:st="on" /><placetype /><placetype w:st="on" />County</placetype /></placetype /></place /></placetype /> <state w:st="on" /><state /><place /><state w:st="on" />Colorado</place /></state /></state />, <placename w:st="on" /><place /><placename /><placename w:st="on" />Summit</placename /></placename /> <placetype w:st="on" /><placetype /><placetype w:st="on" />County</placetype /></placetype /></place /></placetype /> <state w:st="on" /><state /><place /><state w:st="on" />Ohio</place /></state /></state /> and <placename w:st="on" /><place /><placename /><placename w:st="on" />Summit</placename /></placename /> <placetype w:st="on" /><placetype /><placetype w:st="on" />County</placetype /></placetype /></place /></placetype /> <state w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" /><state /><place /><state w:st="on" /><place w:st="on" />Utah</place /></state /></place /></state />. I would hope that we do not have to distinguish between the three. It is not like they are even close to each other geographically. Our <place w:st="on" /><placename w:st="on" /><place /><placename /><place w:st="on" /><placename w:st="on" />Summit</placename /></placename /> <placetype w:st="on" /><placetype /><placetype w:st="on" />County</placetype /></placetype /></place /></placetype /></place /> has state, national and international name recognition. You might tell someone that you are from Breckenridge and they might not know where you are from. If you say you are from <place w:st="on" /><placename w:st="on" /><place /><placename /><place w:st="on" /><placename w:st="on" />Summit</placename /></placename /> <placetype w:st="on" /><placetype /><placetype w:st="on" />County</placetype /></placetype /></place /></placetype /></place /> they know immediately where you are from. Also while you are at it you should take down those ugly weed warning signs. They really detract from the view as you enter the County."

<span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt;
