Heavy snows have ski area execs smiling

About a week ago, I attended the Summit County Chamber annual luncheon with the ski area COOs. Annually, while not sharing any trade secrets with each other, they do share their enthusiasm with those gathered in attendance about their plans for the upcoming year. It's always a fun - in only marignally informative - luncheon. We get to at least compare the styles of Breckenridge and Keystone vs Copper Mountain, and don't forget that feisty Arapahoe Basin.

The overriding wish on each of their lips was for early and continuous snow for the season. After all, that is what brings all of you here - to ski - and as a result, pays the bills and (hopefully) creates profits.

Well, the first wish is answered. Early snow fell beginning last Saturday night, and continued until this morning. Over three days of precipitation. We easily got a foot on our deck, and I was out at least three times on Sunday knocking snow off the trees to keep from losing limbs. It took me about an hour to get feed to the wild birds that we attract, because all the feeders were buried in snow.

So, we'll see. Do we return to an Indian summer as has often been the case in the past, or do we start tuning the narrow boards now? Interestingly, it may have actually dumped more in the plains, but here is a first look, and a second look at Summit County and a look at Colorado overall.

If you have an interest in purchasing property in Summit County, please visit our website. All the property listings are there. When you live or visit here, you will know "Snow Place Like Home".
