Well, on April 8th, I noted that the new Summit Lift, promised to be the highest ski lift in North America, was in limbo. It's preliminary approval by the local Ranger honcho was withdrawn by his boss, Maribeth Gustafson, because she said he did not have the authority to give that approval. Now, she's done the same thing. You know, some decisons just require being done from a more lofty post. So, all this did was delay the result, it would seem, because in either case, the public now has a 45 day period during which to comment - support, protest, or just ride along. Lot's of people are hoping to ride that lift to nearly the top of Peak 8, to nearly 13,000 feet. And some would rather not see that intrusion into the wildernest, including some hearty skiers who think it's just the cat's meow to hike up hill in knee deep snow. Well, we all live in the world, but in either case, it's for fun. We're watching. Vail Resorts wants to start building this summer. |
