| April 09, 2005 | | It's only a danger if you break the rules. | Three skiers came out safely from encounters with two avalanches in Colorado's high country - near the slopes of Breckenridge. They were lucky. Too many people have died in Colorado avalanches this year. But, all have come from breaking the rules. It keeps our Summit County Rescue Group, a completely volunteer organization, very busy. The skiers, who ducked ropes to get to the back country, apologized profusely when they came out, whilst recounting their harrowing experience. Skiing is an incredible experience in Summit County. Our resorts, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin, all makes every effort to also make that experience a safe one. But, there are always a few willing to break the law and put theirs and others' lives in danger. So, enjoy our slopes. Enjoy our people, our nighlife, the ability to ski in shirt sleeves on a sunny 35 degree day. And play by the rules. You'll go home happy - partly because you will go home on time. And you will be welcome back. | |
