| March 09, 2005 | | Above average snowfall this year helps. | Well, we are above normal in most areas of the State for snowfall this year. Or, at least, we're well above last year. Summit County, for example, is 98% of average, but 118% of last year's precipitation. So, the hope is there. But, is it enough? Well, the Colorado Climate Center is still worried. Most of our snow this year hit the southwest areas of the State. And several years of drought means that one above-average year is not enough to catch up. Even if stream and river flows are good, the acquifers need to be replenished. The Denver Acquifer (which provides much of the water for the Denver Metro Area) is still way down. We'll need more years of this to really make the news. But, a good year leaves us all optimistic. | |
