Serving the Summit County area, the Summit Chamber of Commerce provides networking for local businesses. It is the only organization that represents businesses throughout the County. Every month, the Chamber offers both networking and educational opportunities. Among these is the monthly Chamber Mixer, usually held the first Thursday of each month, and hosted by a different venue each time. It’s a great way of not only networking businesses together, but the community as well, and it’s just a wonderful opportunity to meet people. What kinds of things go on at these mixers? Well, business and community vendors set up their booths sharing their products/resources, door prizes are given out, a local band usually plays, sometimes an ice-breaker activity is hosted, and all surrounded by good food, good drink, and good people. For me, it has been a refreshing welcome back to the area. As a returning long-time local to Summit County, the last two mixers I attended really made me feel right at home. While I did feel a little out of place at first - not really knowing too many people in Summit County now and feeling a little like I’d been out of touch for too long – friendly strangers soon came up to me and started conversation. Once they learned of my story, hearty handshakes, pats on the shoulder, and the kind words, “welcome home,” were abundant. In fact, at the last mixer, held August 7th at the Frisco Bay Marina, I was, in good humor of course, called a “boomerang.” A phrase I haven’t really heard of before, but as for many former locals like myself, it fits. Some unknown force out there keeps bringing us back. The Summit Chamber is open to businesses in Summit County and offers a variety of benefits. Some of these include Chamber member brochures or business cards showcased in the Summit Information Center in the Outlets at Silverthorne, which is visited by over 80,000 walk-ins annually; various discounts through SummitSavers.Com and member-to-member discounts from other Chamber member businesses, as well as many other benefits that help provide successful networking tools. The next Summit Chamber Mixer will be held Thursday, September 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Divine Wines in Silverthorne. So, if you are new in town, or just want to get your business promoted, stop by and enjoy the fun. And who knows, you just might bump into a boomerang. Blog By Christy Darling |
