The snow is leaving the High Country and although you can still ski Arapahoe Basin, the rest of the county has closed shop and gone on vacation. Our favorite restaurants close for repairs, half our residents are tanned from a jaunt in some exotic local, the trash that's been hidden by snow for the last 8 months has become explosed prompting each town in the county to plan "Town clean-up days." These are slower days where a price conscious tourists could visit our slice of heaven with out all the crowds. Silverthorne has a neighborhood of hotels that offer the overnighter a great bed at a great deal. Just off the exit ramp of the highway into Silverthorne you can see the Day's Inn:
And in the same parking lot, La Quinta with attached Old Chicago restaurant:
The third hotel in the area that I'd recommend is the Luxury Inn and Suites which is across from the Village Inn.
All three of these hotels has great ownership and therefore a great staff. They offer incredible views at reasonable prices. They are located near restaurants and bars and are within walking distance of the bus route. Remember that Summit County has a free bus system so that once you are here you can not drive anywhere and truly vacation. Each of these hotels has a hot tub- I've personally tested them all, and althougfh they are all different each one offers something the others doesn't. A short drive can get you to the Old Dillon Inn (or the ODI as the locals call it) or the Mint. Both establishments serve libations and food and are historic relics that where removed from the original town of Dillon, before it was flooded to make Lake Dillon. Stories of a town under water still circulate the county. Cap the night off with a concert at the Silverthorne Pavillion. | |
