Well, it's finally here. Even though it won't open until December 6th, the hospital is about ready. Ready enough to host a VIP reception for all those who helped make this hospital a reality. After 50+ years of hoping, planning, and failures, the right combination of visionaries put forth the energy, and Summit County will finally have its own hospital. And none too soon. Our year-round population has nearly doubled in the past 10 years, and the need to fly or drive people over the Continental Divide to Denver hospitals for serious care has become much more than a nuisance. This will be a Level III facility, which means that nearly all cases can be handled locally. It will have state-of-the-art surgical facilities, birthing facilities and a community care clinic.
